Self Help Group

The Self Help Group is a Saving and Credit Group under the Archdiocese of Nairobi. It is one of the church groups in the parish.

St. Jude Self Help Group (SHG) was founded in the year 2000. It operates under the Catholic Caritas Nairobi Self Help Programme. It is run by a professional management Committee elected at the Annual General Meeting of the members. The management committee is guided by the core values of the SHG which includes honesty, integrity, transparency, accountability, effectiveness, efficiency, service leadership and God-fearing.

The vision of the Self Help Group is ” to be the best run and fastest growing group in the Archdiocese of Nairobi”, the mission on the other hand is ” to enhance recruitment of members and service delivery in order to empower  the members economically”. The group’s current membership stands at 729 active members, a share capital of ksh. 21 million and an asset base of kshs. 25 million, mostly in the form of loans to members and investment in treasury bills and the Caritas Micro-finance Bank

The membership is projected to increase to the tune of 400 within the next three years according to the group’s strategic plan for the years 2018 – 2021 with a corresponding increase  in its capital and asset base.

The group gives loans up to three times the member’s shares upon guarantee by fellow members to attain a shilling-to-shilling fund guarantee policy as per Caritas guidelines, this ensures that members’ savings are fully secured  and will not be lost at any given time. .
